Overview of 50MPa Self-Leveling Concrete
50 MPa self-compacting concrete (SCC) is a specialized type of concrete developed to automatically fill mold spaces without the need for traditional concrete placement methods or vibration. This requires special self-leveling properties, the ability to flow into complex formwork without the need for mechanical compaction, while still ensuring the quality and durability of the hardened concrete.
SCC with a compressive strength of 50 MPa is commonly used in applications that demand high strength and durability. The 50 MPa strength indicates the concrete's ability to withstand high compressive forces once it has hardened.
Advantages of SCC include:
-
Time-saving: SCC quickly fills formwork, reducing the time and effort required for placement.
-
Noise reduction: As no vibration is needed, construction noise is minimized, reducing noise pollution.
-
Aesthetic finish: SCC often provides smooth and visually pleasing surfaces without extensive tooling.
-
Lower disposal costs: SCC helps reduce waste concrete and associated handling costs.
50 MPa self-compacting SCC is often used in construction projects that require high stiffness, durability, and aesthetic quality, such as bridges, high-rise buildings, and other critical infrastructure.
Technical Specifications:
- This type of concrete was used in the 1A and 1B package sections of the Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line project, constructed by the contractor joint ventures SMCC–Cienco4 and Shimizu–Meada, specifically for the underground stations: Ba Son, Opera House, and Ben Thanh.
- Key characteristics:
-
Slump retention: 18 ± 2 cm for 3 hours
-
Temperature: ≤ 35°C
-
Flow diameter: 550–700 mm
-
Minimum flow height: 300 mm
-
- The concrete was placed in underground conditions with limited space for operations.
- Contractors highly valued the overall concrete quality, particularly the performance of admixtures provided by ICCI.
The 50 MPa self-compacting column concrete component of Metro Line No. 1 was implemented as part of the construction package for the underground section, including the Opera House Station, Ba Son Underground Station, and Ben Thanh Station. This component was contracted by Saigon RDC Co., Ltd., with ICCI supplying the admixtures.
The 50 MPa self-compacting column concrete was specially designed and constructed to support the underground sections (Opera House Station, Ben Thanh Station, and Ba Son Station), serving the purpose of withstanding significant loads from the overhead infrastructure.
The use of 50 MPa self-compacting column concrete in the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro Line project plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and durability of the railway system, while also reducing time and labor during the construction process.
Supply Capacity:
The entire Metro Line No. 1, including the diaphragm wall segment, used admixtures supplied by ICCI. ICCI’s products fully met all technical requirements and supply capacity standards. As a result, customers highly appreciated ICCI’s dedication, professional attitude, and 24/7 supply readiness, which helped avoid any disruptions to the project.
