Project Overview

The construction of underwater transportation infrastructure often requires special attention to technical and safety issues, including the use of appropriate materials to ensure strength and water penetration resistance. The following technical requirements must be met: Concrete must be produced and delivered according to high-quality standards to ensure durability and resistance to water ingress.

Overview of Underwater Concrete

Underwater concrete pouring involves placing concrete grout into formwork submerged underwater to construct structural components in situations where constructing retaining walls and draining the water is not feasible. It is critical that water must not infiltrate the concrete mass during the pouring process.

Some Requirements and Specifications

During the construction of Ba Son Station, the joint venture contractor Shimizu - Maeda had to carry out underwater concrete works. Typically, contractors would build retaining structures and pump out water before proceeding, but in this case, the contractor proposed a direct underwater concrete pouring method, which met all the technical construction method requirements and was approved by the project owner and consultants.
