Overview of Diaphragm Wall Concrete:
Diaphragm wall concrete is constructed in individual panels that interlock to ensure structural stability, deformation resistance, and water-tightness for the entire structure. When the final excavation depth is reached, temporary or permanent struts are installed into the excavation groove. Then, the excavation stabilizing fluid is sieved and the process continues with steel cage installation and concrete pouring.
In the Metro Line No. 1 project, the diaphragm wall concrete work is part of the underground section construction package. This is a crucial part of the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro project in Ho Chi Minh City. Here, diaphragm wall concrete is used to form retaining walls around the underground railway system. These walls play a vital role in protecting and shaping the tracks and ensuring that the external environment remains unaffected by Metro Line 1 operations, specifically:
-
Diaphragm walls create the internal surfaces of the underground railway, supporting and protecting the tracks, cable systems, and related equipment from external environmental impacts.
-
They help insulate noise and vibrations generated by the Metro’s operation, reducing disturbance to residents living near the Metro line.
-
Diaphragm walls ensure safety for passengers and operators by maintaining the tracks and related systems in optimal condition.
-
They protect the underground structure and the ground above from water ingress, settlement, and other adverse effects.
Technical Specifications of Diaphragm Wall Concrete:
-
The diaphragm wall concrete component belongs to Contract Packages 1A and 1B, with EPC general contractors being the joint ventures of Shimizu - Maeda and SMCC - Cienco4, covering a length of 1.7 km.
-
During construction, the concrete met the workability requirement of maintaining consistency for 8 hours from the time the concrete sample was taken at the site.
-
All works carried out by the two joint ventures, including diaphragm walls, used the MVN 3000RC (Mighty 3000RC) admixture supplied by ICCI on a 24/7 basis.
-
The diaphragm walls have a thickness ranging from 1 to 1.5 meters, a width of 2.5 meters, and a depth of 45 meters. Some concrete pours reached nearly 200 m³ per panel.
The diaphragm wall concrete component of Metro Line No. 1 was carried out as part of the underground section construction package.
Workers are currently constructing diaphragm walls on Metro Line No. 1.
The diaphragm wall concrete is built panel by panel, interlocking to ensure structural stability, resistance to deformation, and water tightness for the entire structure.
Supply Capability:
The entire Metro Line No. 1 project, and specifically the diaphragm wall component, uses admixtures supplied by ICCI. ICCI’s products meet all technical requirements as well as supply capacity demands. As a result, the client highly appreciates ICCI’s dedication, service attitude, and 24/7 readiness to supply materials without any disruption to the project.
