The Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong Expressway began construction in 2004 and was completed in 2012. The entire route spans 61.9 km, featuring two automobile lanes and one emergency lane on each side. The total investment amounted to VND 9,884 billion, fully funded by ODA loans.
This was the first expressway in Vietnam, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long An and Tien Giang provinces. It significantly improved the flow of goods between the city and the Mekong Delta provinces by reducing travel time between the two endpoints from 90 minutes to just 30 minutes.
The expressway starts in Tan Tuc Town, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, and ends in Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province.
Originally designed with a maximum speed limit of 120 km/h, the road has been operated at a practical speed limit of 100 km/h since it opened to traffic.
