Development History of Cam Ranh Airport:

Cam Ranh Airport is located in Cam Ranh City, Khanh Hoa Province, approximately 35 kilometers from the tourist city of Nha Trang. The airport was originally built before 1975 to serve military purposes. In 2004, it was re-zoned and developed for civilian use.

In 2014, due to the increasing travel demand in the region and the fact that Nha Trang Airport could no longer meet the transportation needs of the local population — while lacking sufficient land for expansion — Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai issued a directive approving the expansion of Cam Ranh Airport. It was designated to serve as the primary airport for Khanh Hoa Province in particular and the South Central Coast region in general, with the construction of Runway No. 2 as part of the Cam Ranh International Airport project. By 2019, Runway No. 2 and Terminal T2 were officially completed.

Runway No. 2 was constructed to meet the standards of a Class 4E airport, with the scale and load-bearing capacity to safely and efficiently accommodate large commercial aircraft currently in operation.

After nearly 20 years in service, Khanh Hoa Province and the Airports Corporation of Vietnam have carried out multiple upgrades, repairs, and expansions, turning Cam Ranh Airport into the fourth busiest airport in Vietnam in terms of passenger traffic, serving nearly 4 million passengers in 2022.

Some key specifications

According to the design, the runway is 3,048 meters long and 45 meters wide, with a pavement structure made of reinforced concrete and steel mesh concrete. It meets the standards of a Class 4E airport, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of large commercial aircraft such as the Airbus A320, A321, Boeing 767, 777, etc. Additionally, several technical indicators have been enhanced to prepare for future accommodation of Code F aircraft.
